Keyword: bundles mumbles.

It's summer in the north hemisphere of the globe and most people are on vacation. I'm not and won't be for a while yet. So, here we are again with another avalanche of stories. Starting from mine.

As you know from a previous email, I've been playing with TikTok. It has been for a month and a half by now.

Mind that I'm not getting viral, but I'm having a ball while making all these creative and sometimes, if not ofttimes, silly videos. If you're not following me yet, fell free to do so. Here you can find my videos.

In the second newsletter of each month, I don't usually talk about freebies—for those there's the first newsletter of each month. This month is an exception because I'm participating at this bundle of great books. It's limited number of stories, but I've always believed that quality is not in the great numbers.

So, here you'll find nine books of different genres, all for free at Story Origin. If your vacation is already over, what best occasion to forget about gong back to the boring, daily routine? And if you still have to go, then grab some books to read while relaxing, and happy reading.

The bundle is available here.

And now let's get through the fantastic paid stories available for you this week.

Lies crafted from good intentions. Death spreading through the stars. When the past returns to claim its due, will anyone survive?

Earth Solar System, the Future. Abigail Olivaw is drowning in self-doubt. Hiding a devastating secret from the populace, the President of the Confederation of Planetary Explorers is horrified when hostile aliens arrive to announce they’re putting humanity on trial. Forced to act as her species’ defender in court, she struggles to hide her family’s hidden multi-generational history that could lead to a sentence of genocide.

Epsilon Eridani Colony. Joyce Green’s passion for her job is dwarfed only by her love for her son. So when he dies from a mysterious virus that threatens the entire settlement, the Director of Colonization vows to stop at nothing to discover what triggered the deadly infection. And as she uncovers the truth bit by bit, her heartbreak fuels a berserk need for justice.

Trapped by guilt over a mistake she didn’t choose, Abigail falls into a tailspin when the invaders reveal the facts of her race’s origins. And when Joyce unmasks a traitor, the rest of her people would be lucky to only die from disease.

With their paths on a collision course, will the women’s consequence-laden decisions destroy humankind’s last hope?

Dark Nebula: Isolation is the gripping first book in the evocative Dark Nebula space opera series. If you like emotionally complex characters, chilling twists, and eye-opening takes on technology, then you’ll love Sean Willson’s sweeping epic.

"I start with zero. Nobody dies today."

The strange note was just the beginning. Soon Howard County, Maryland Detective Lieutenant Rick Peller is in pursuit of a cunning killer basing murders on the Fibonacci series, a mathematical sequence in which each number is the sum of the preceding two. And all Peller knows for sure is that the series never ends. As the murders pile up, Peller, his protégés Detective Sergeants Corina Montufar and Eric Dumas, and consulting mathematician Tomio Kaneko race against time to identify and capture the killer. Nor is murder their only problem. Simultaneously, a golf-club wielding mugger is terrorizing their community. Both crime sprees are wrapped in impenetrable mystery. Are mugger and murderer one and the same? Why does the murderer seem to know Peller? Why is the Pentagon eager to keep a lid on the investigation? Can the detectives find the killer before he commits his final, terrible crime? find out here.

Last but not least, my most recent review. As expected it's about book eight of The Expanse, Tiamat's Wrath.

Tiamat’s Wrath is the eight book of the Expanse and it delivers everything promised in the previous books. The resistance with Naomi is on one side, Alex and Bobbie are on another, and Holden is on the third front. They're all trying to survive to the new Martian regime. The fight is tough, the technology at their disposal is primitive compared to the pseudo-protomolecule Martian one, but they don’t desist and keep fighting.

Many things happen in this novel, but many more will have to happen in the last instalment that should be available by November. Will I be able to survive until then? I clearly hope so. I must know how this is going to end. The premises are grimdark, but all this book is filled with a sense of ending, of suffocation, of defeat. Nothing lasts forever, after all. And even if in the end not everyone dies (someone does), it’s still a sad book. No illusions about happy endings. But then, I don’t read many of those books.

I must admit that Holden’s chapters are more interesting in this novel. Naomi remains my favourite character. And the villain is a decently nasty thing. The most boring character is Elvi. We meet the scientist again after her appearance in Cibola Burn, book 4, where she was as boring as she’s here. Also, one of her chapters contains the biggest plot hole of the entire novel. Despite this huge mistake by the authors, I enjoyed this book and give it 3,5 stars.
