iRomance by Darrell B Nelson is a bitter-sweet story. It all starts when Otis receives a text from an old friend and meets with a mysterious woman, called Cynthia. The sudden death of Otis’s friend after he received the text sets up the hunting for the truth. In a world where technology makes thing easy, there are those who are willing to drag the world back to the Middle Ages and discovering the killer of Otis’s friend may start another civil war in the United states.
What I enjoyed the most was the plot twist halfway through the story. Something I wasn’t expecting at all. It was one of those Homer Simpson’s doh moments.
Otis’s cat is also a sweet addition to a world of fantasy that has many parallels and similarities with our own. The cat is definitely my favourite character, even though it’s just a minor one.
What I had trouble with was some of the characters’ reactions to certain situations. They seemed out of touch and out of time, but it may be just something I feel because I wouldn’t react that way.
All in all this is a light read with some dark pages about human’s nature.
